Ritual Cloak is the ambient/post-rock project of Cardiff-based composer Daniel Barnett, formerly of the band Samoans, and Andrew Sanders, a drummer and producer. United by a shared passion for film scores and minimal techno, the duo emerged from predominantly rock backgrounds to explore expansive, piano-led soundscapes infused with ambient textures and glitchy rhythms.

Their debut self-titled album, released in 2019, was a widely acclaimed introduction to their vision: a striking blend of ethereal piano, cinematic atmospheres, and carefully sculpted beats. It established Ritual Cloak as a singular voice in Wales’ ambient and experimental music scene.

In 2020, Ritual Cloak signed to the Bubblewrap Collective label. That year saw the release of the single I Lawr Ymhlith Y Tywyllwch, a haunting revisit to the icy textures of their debut—this time built anew with glitched edits and meticulous sonic layering.

2021 proved their most prolific year. They released two full-length works: Divine Invasions and A Human Being Is The Best Disguise—the latter a reimagination of their debut made vivid with lyrics and vocals by writer-comedian Autumn Juvenile. They also issued a compelling cover of R.E.M.’s Orange Crush, and the meditative Witaj w Domu, created in collaboration with Polish photographer Michał Iwanowski—a reflective, cross-disciplinary work.

After a brief pause, Ritual Cloak returned in autumn 2022 with Shell, a powerfully intimate single that reaffirmed their evocative minimalism. This was followed in April 2023 by the ambient-leaning EP Vanished in Transition, demonstrating their continuing evolution and depth.

Beyond music, Ritual Cloak has carved out a presence in film and television scoring, including work on S4C’s Bariau, showcasing their talent for translating emotional textures into visual media.

Their sound – a convergence of glacial post-rock, ambient electronics, and minimal techno – draws comparisons to artists like Mogwai, Kiasmos, and Sigur Rós, while remaining distinctly rooted in their cinematic conceptual landscape
