Almost precisely three years since the release of Dollar Lizard Money Zombie, HMS Morris return with their fourth studio album SACI HACS. Recorded between the band’s home in Cardiff and an underground garage in Johnstown, SACI HACS is an enigmatic sack of peculiar hacks. Some actually useful, most absurd, all containing a kernel of joy.
There are no discernible genre-restrictions in evidence as the band continue to evolve their distinctive blend of real instruments and electronica, combining playful orchestration with warped textures, dramatic melodies and joyful experimentation. The result lives somewhere between art-rock, electro-rock and dramatic pop: chaotic, emotional, funny and strangely comforting all at once.
