AhGeeBe

AhGeeBe-scaled

AhGeeBe is the stage name of Welsh songwriter, pedal-steel player and multi-instrumentalist Rhodri Gwyn Brooks. Over the past decade, he has become a familiar and versatile presence in the Welsh music scene, lending his distinctive musicianship to recordings and live performances with a wide range of artists including Melin Melyn, Gia Margaret, Novo Amor, Georgia Ruth and Ivan Moult. These collaborations have seen him move fluidly between genres, but always with a sensitivity and melodic instinct rooted in his love of classic songwriting. Drawing inspiration from artists such as George Harrison, Wilco and Neil Young, Brooks has developed a sound that balances rich Americana textures with a lo-fi intimacy and understated charm.

Through Bubblewrap Collective, Rhodri has quietly built up a body of work, first releasing stripped-back home recordings and a series of EPs under his own name. He also co-founded the experimental folk duo Eugene Capper & Rhodri Brooks, whose 2017 album Pontvane was nominated for the Welsh Music Prize and praised for its off-kilter blend of pastoral folk and warped, analogue sonics.

Now, after more than a decade of writing and refining songs in the background, Brooks steps forward under his AhGeeBe moniker with Chin Up, Chief—his long-awaited debut album. Released through Bubblewrap Collective, the record gathers together years of ideas, sketches and hard-earned experience, shaping them into a fully-formed and personal statement. Blending warm pedal-steel flourishes with wry lyricism and timeless melodies, Chin Up, Chief establishes AhGeeBe as not just a sought-after collaborator, but a songwriter and artist in his own right.
