HMS Morris
HMS Morris are an art-rock group from Wales, signed to Cardiff’s Bubblewrap Collective, whose kaleidoscopic sound blends psych-pop, experimental rock, and electronic textures. Since forming in 2015, they have built a reputation as one of the most adventurous and imaginative bands to emerge from the Welsh scene in recent years.
Their two full-length albums – Interior Design (2016) and Inspirational Talks (2018) – both earned Welsh Music Prize nominations and were widely acclaimed. Described as “innovative, forward-thinking pop music” (Earthly Pleasures), “strange and beautiful” (Electronic Sound), and “a multi-dimensional sound that traipses across hitherto unexplored regions of sound” (Clash), the band has consistently pushed the boundaries of what Welsh pop music can be.
In 2022 they returned with their third album, Dollar Lizard Money Zombie, a dazzlingly eclectic collection that further cemented their reputation for sonic invention. Equal parts playful and unsettling, the record explores themes of capitalism, consumerism, and chaos with the band’s trademark surreal humour and bold musicality. It was hailed as their most ambitious work to date, combining groove-driven art-pop with jagged psych-rock and electronic experimentation.
On stage, HMS Morris are a vibrant and unpredictable force, with a reputation for theatrical and immersive live shows. They have toured extensively across the UK and internationally, taking their music to audiences in Toronto, Montreal, Osaka, Tokyo and Kyoto, as well as to major festivals at home.
Never content to stand still, the band continue to expand their creative universe through cross-disciplinary work. They are currently developing an ambitious new project combining theatre, art, dance, and music, exploring the idea of running away from Earth – a concept that promises to be as bold and genre-defying as their recorded output.
